Two feminists with a love of gossip sites and an inability to "shut up" or "smile correctly" when gossip sites draw obscene images on pictures of 15 year olds or refer to bisexual men and women as attention seeking.

So we created this tumblr to talk about that.

The title of the blog comes from our mutual loathing of pictures of crying and/or upset celebrity children. We wish such pictures, like many of the things we highlight here, would disappear from the face of the earth.

I do try to be fair. People grow and change, they become more aware and hopefully post less body policing and other horrors, right? So I resolved today to try to read The Fug Girls, again.

Maybe it was just the week or two I could get through, but it wasn’t as bad as I remembered. As bad, There were no entries on Taylor Momsen, and I know from my fellow fiuter that they are really bad with her. There wasn’t even that much overt slut shaming! (I did not read some of the entries entirely.) Also nothing on Blake Lively, so I didn’t get to read their thoughts on the woman they gave the oh so funny nickname of Boobs Legsly.

And yet. There was the entry on Jennifer Lopez (who had a vapid and irritating letter written from her perspective where the writers made fun of her … wardrobe for the movie which she likely had almost nothing to do with choosing and was not likely intended to be attractive, and also, clearly, two women as connected to Hollywood and fashion as the Fug Girls would KNOW, but chose to ignore …), the one on Jessica Alba (they liked her dress. Me, too! I just find comments about “pregnancy has gone on forever” irritating - she announced in February and it is now 6 months later - her pregnancy has lasted the normal amount of time for a full-term pregnancy. Sorry she’s not delivering in a quicker fashion?) And Nicki Minaj who was pictured eating fried chicken from her performance on GMA show with an approving note. Really? No time to note the various layers involved in that picture or Minaj’s performance except that she’s “crazy” and you like it? Okay.

This entry has some serious body policing in re: wearing a bra and appearing “acceptable” and acts like “cankles” are a real horror women should avoid.

But this entry. A) no, just smiling and saying it’s great does not end the speculation. The Fug Girls KNOW that. B) Why presume that Rachel Weisz, who is also an actress and understands how gossip works, would want what the Fug Girls have decided is the acceptable, non-humorless way to discuss their private affairs. C) you can imagine how I feel about the SMILE YOU BITCH in the quiz thing.

So the Fug Girls are still falsely putting on a just folks demeanor so they can criticize stars they’ve met and partied with for things they pretend the stars are responsible for, still body policing, still really not the least bit of critical of the various levels of privilege - like the Nicki Minaj picture, etc. I think I feel okay being a little judgey of people who unabashedly rec the site.
